Barnett House provides a structured environment for youth aged 16 to 19 who are leaving care or transitioning to living on their own. The program offers more than just a place to live; it provides a supportive community where young people can learn the skills necessary for independence.

Transitional housing provides the structure to practice independence with onsite support. Residents have their own space and responsibilities as part of a supported independent living program. The coordinator supports to develop goals and offers guidance when challenges arise.

Barnett House
A six-plex apartment building featuring five bachelor suites.
Fully furnished with kitchenware, appliances, a bed, and living essentials.
On-site coordinator available to provide guidance and supports program goals.
Life skills development (cooking, budgeting, shopping, daily routines)
Individualized planning for youth to work toward education, training, or employment at their own pace.
Counselling, mental health services, and community activities.
Location: Campbell River.
Eligibility
Barnett House is open to:
Youth ages 16 to 19 in Campbell River.
Services may extend beyond age 19 in certain circumstances.
Youth transitioning from care and/or to living on their own.
Youth committed to program expectations regarding school, work, or training.

Referral Submitted
Most referrals to Barnett House come through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
STEP 02
Application
Once the referral is received our team will review it and be in touch to request an application and answer any questions you may have.
STEP 03
Welcome home
Once accepted, you’ll receive all the information you need about the program and get settled in.

Frequently Asked Questions About Barnett House in Campbell River.
Yes, but the rent is affordable. It is often paid directly to the program by MCFD or through a Youth Agreement. Youth with other financial assistance may also apply. Contact us for current rates.
Rent includes a fully furnished suite, electricity, Wi-Fi, and access to on-site laundry facilities.
Yes. Meetings occur more frequently at the beginning. Once settled, you typically meet with the coordinator once a week in your unit to track goals and progress.
Residents must respect others and the property. Illegal activity, drugs, and alcohol are not permitted on site. Visitor policies apply (one visitor at a time, curfew on school nights). No pets or smoking inside suites.
The average stay is 6 to 9 months, but this depends on your specific needs and goals.
After a referral has been submitted for you by your social worker, you can fill out an application form or email CommunityProgramsCR@jhsni.bc.ca to ask questions and arrange a visit.
