180° YOUTH DETOX & SUPPORTED RECOVERY IN CAMPBELL RIVER

A Voluntary Path to Withdrawal and Wellness.

The 180° program provides voluntary detox and supportive recovery for youth ages 13 to 19. Youth live with specialized family caregivers while working with counsellors to stabilize, address substance use, and develop skills for healthier choices.

The detox/stabilization program provides a comfortable home-like setting for youth to withdraw from harmful substances. The youth reside in trained John Howard family carehomes. Most youth experience only mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms when they stop using drugs and alcohol. They need a nurturing, supportive, safe environment in which to detox. After detox, youth may then access a stabilization bed in a family carehome to begin rebuilding their lives. Stabilization involves attending our structured day program where youth may participate in school, counselling, recreation, and/or life skills activities.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About the 180° Program in Campbell River.

Yes. The 180° program is fully voluntary. It is designed for youth who are ready to engage in detox and supportive recovery.

Youth reside in John Howard Society family care homes in the community. These are trained, specialized caregivers who provide a safe, supportive home environment.

We take a graduated approach, starting with 4 to 7 days of non-medical detox followed by up to 6 months of stabilization and will gradually involve the youth accessing more activities outside the home.

Youth receive individual counselling, recreational activities, academic support, help with physical and mental health, and support learning life skills. On-call staff are available when needed.

We use a harm reduction approach. Youth who were already using nicotine prior to intake may continue with signed guardian consent and a staff-supported plan to reduce use. Use is limited to scheduled breaks and designated outdoor areas, and all use is managed by staff. Costs associated with nicotine products are the responsibility of the youth or their gaurdians. Youth without a prior history of use are not permitted to begin while in the program.

Youth in the program report improvements in academics, physical and psychological health, and relationships with family. Many also report reduced or no substance use after attending.
