FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about Behavioural Consultant Services in the Comox Valley.
Referrals are typically made by social workers when a new caregiver is preparing for placement, or whenever a new child or youth is placed in a carehome. In some cases, the resource social worker may also make a referral to provide additional support for caregivers who have been caring for children or youth long term.
Caregivers supporting a child or youth connected with MCFD are also welcome to make a self-referral at any time by contacting the Behaviour Consultant directly.
While the primary focus is supporting children or youth in a carehome, the Behaviour Consultant can assist with any circumstances that help support or maintain a stable placement. This may include:
- Supporting caregivers with challenges involving other family members in the home that may impact the child or youth in care
- Helping caregivers identify additional supports, resources, or training needs
- Assisting with communication and collaboration with community partners and service providers
The program also offers regular caregiver group gatherings and training opportunities on a variety of relevant topics.
