Supported Independent Living for Youth Program:
The goal/objective of this program is to establish safe, affordable and supported housing for youth in "youth friendly" locations. The program assists youth to make a healthy transition into adulthood and reduce homelessness. The youth develop needed life skills and social skills to live cooperatively with others, with the support of an independent living worker. Housing units are rented (and insured) by JHSNI for a set amount of time with youth friendly landlords. JHSNI sublet to youth approved for the program and by the landlord of that specific unit.
Location: Campbell River - 10th Avenue
Outcomes:
93 youth were provided advocacy, support, life skills, education, employment readiness skills, counselling, and assistance exploring independent living options. 89% of youth reported that they gained confidence and further developed their life skills to help them avoid living on the streets.
