
Headstart
Headstart is an alternative-to-custody program for male youth between 14-18 years of age. Located in Campbell River, on Vancouver Island, Headstart is a six-month long program. Headstart is open to young men in BC who are on a probation order that includes a condition to attend a Full-Time Attendance Program. There are a total of five (5) spaces in the program and intake is continous.
While in the program, youth reside with contracted Caregiver Families who provide youth with a safe and supportive place to live.
During the week youth attend the Day Program which focuses on academics, employment readiness, communication, self-awareness, healthy relationships, recreational activities, independant-living (as appropriate), and much more! For more information: Headstart Youth Handbook .
Referrals are accepted only from Probation Officers. Please send referrals by fax to 250-286-6080. The Probation Officer Brochure provides additional information about the referral and screening process.
The Headstart staff team is comprised of two Youth Counsellors, School District 72 Teacher, Counselling Coordinator and Family Resource Worker. Headstart youth can access group and individual Alcohol and Drug counselling.
